Game Development: From Concept to Playable

Games are the hardest software there is to finish: they're not done when they work — they're done when they're fun, and fun only reveals itself through playtesting and iteration. Our game development process is built around reaching playable early, testing honestly, and polishing what players actually respond to.

Engines and Platforms

We build in Unity and Unreal — Unity for most mobile and 2D/mid-scope 3D work, Unreal when visual fidelity leads the requirements — targeting mobile (iOS/Android), PC (Steam and stores), and web. Engine choice follows the game's needs and the team that will maintain it, not fashion. Cross-platform reach is planned from the start, because retrofitting it later is misery.

Prototype First: Finding the Fun Cheaply

Every project starts with a playable prototype of the core loop — ugly art, real mechanics — because the core loop is the game, and no design document can prove it works. Prototyping answers the expensive question ('is this fun?') at the cheapest possible price, and gives you something in hand before committing to full production.

Production: Art, Code, and Content Pipeline

Full production runs three tracks in parallel: engineering (mechanics, systems, performance), art and audio (style-consistent assets, animation, sound design), and content (levels, progression, balancing). Weekly playable builds keep everything honest — you play your game throughout development, not just at milestones.

Monetization Without Ruining the Game

Mobile monetization — ads, in-app purchases, battle passes, premium pricing — works only when it's designed with the game, not bolted on. We model the economy early, implement ad networks and IAP properly, and keep the line where monetization starts damaging retention, because a game players quit earns nothing regardless of its store design.

Launch and Live Operations

Shipping is the midpoint: store optimization, launch builds, analytics, crash monitoring, and post-launch content cadence decide whether a game finds and keeps players. We support soft launches for tuning retention before wide release, and live-ops engagements for games that need ongoing content and events to sustain their audience.

FAQs

Which engine do you use?
We primarily use Unity for 2D/mobile games and Unreal Engine for 3D/console games. We choose the engine that best fits your game's requirements and budget.
How long does game development take?
A simple mobile game takes 2–4 months. Mid-core games take 6–12 months. Large-scale games can take 1–3 years. We scope each project individually.
Who owns the game after development?
You do. Full intellectual property rights transfer to you upon final payment. We sign IP assignment agreements for every project.
How much does game development cost?
Prototypes: low thousands. Polished 2D mobile games: five figures. 3D and content-heavy titles: scope-dependent, quoted per design. The honest budgeting insight: art and iteration consume more than engineering in most games — plan for polishing time, because 'works' and 'fun' are different milestones.
How long does it take to build a game?
Prototype: 2–4 weeks. Simple mobile titles: 2–4 months. Mid-scope games: 6–12 months. Games uniquely resist deadline compression because iteration on feel can't be scheduled precisely — which is exactly why we prototype first and scope production from evidence.
Do you do both the art and the programming?
Yes — engineering, 2D/3D art, animation, UI, and audio through our team and vetted specialists, under one project management roof. You can also bring your own art or IP; we integrate external assets and style guides routinely.
Can you take over or finish a stalled game project?
Often, yes. We audit the existing codebase and assets, give you an honest salvage-versus-restart assessment, and take over maintainable projects with a stabilization phase first. Stalled projects usually suffer from scope problems more than code problems — the rescue is as much production discipline as engineering.
